Venus Mill Website
Phase 2 of the Venus Mill Conservation Project builds on the documentation work completed in Phase 1 to deliver a public-facing digital storytelling platform for the Venus Mill historic site. The Venus Mill is an important industrial heritage site in southern Yukon, recognized for its connection to early twentieth-century hard rock mining and the discovery of gold and silver deposits in the nearby mountains. As the site is unsafe for public access with no physical conservation planned, the platform serves as the primary means for the public to explore and learn about the site.
The platform takes the form of a scrolly-telling website, a format where the narrative unfolds as the user scrolls through a combination of text, visuals, and interactive elements. The experience brings together narrative text, historical imagery, animations, and interactive elements to guide users through the history and operations of the mill. The site is structured in two sections: an Overview that introduces the site through contextual and present-day information, and Inside the Mill, which explores the mill's internal operations, its significance, and the documentation effort. The website is fully responsive across desktop, tablet, and mobile devices, and is live at venusmillstory.ca.
