Documentation of the Tomb of Tutankhamen and Tomb of Nefertari
As part of the Getty Conservation Institute’s work in Egypt in close cooperation with the Ministry of Antiquities, the CIMS team undertook the accurate acquisition of the current state of conservation of KV 62 - Tomb of Tutankhamen and QV 66 - Tomb of Nefertari with the use of appropriate and suitable technology.
CIMS provided local staff from the Centre d'Etude et de Documentation sur l'Ancienne Egypte (CEDAE) with a meaningful learning experience to acquaint them with the use of specific recording techniques to document and therefore preserve historic wall paintings in a relatively short period.
The deliverables included high resolution ortho-corrected photographic elevations, presented as architectural sections of the wall paintings along with measured drawings of the tombs.
Furthermore, training materials customized for photogrammetric survey of the wall paintings were delivered to the Egyptian colleagues.
