Vertical Log Assembly

Vertical logs are supported between two horizontal pieces of wood at the base of the wall. The logs at the corners and around the door and window frames are halved and secured in place with wooden pins at the top and bottom. The rest of the logs are not load-bearing.

Typical Vertical Log Construction is most commonly found in Eastern Canada. In this typical model, the structure sits on a fieldstone foundation around the perimeter. It features a hip roof and covered front porch.
