Saddle Notch Log Assembly

Saddle notched logs typically require at least an extra foot of log after the dovetail notch for structural support. The walls are load-bearing and are assembled with the largest logs on the bottom and smallest logs at the top supporting the ridge pole.

Typical Saddle Notch Log Construction is most commonly found in Western Canada. The structure sits on groups of log piles driven into the ground at each corner and at midpoints around perimeter.
