Heavy Timber Framing (less than 30ft)

To carry the weight of the roof at a span less than 30ft, the king post truss is introduced at particular distances from each other according to the roof weight to be carried. The king post vertically links the ceiling beam to the apex of a triangular roof truss. The carpenter connects timbers by notching, by mortise and tenon joints, or with wooden pegs. Joists are notched into sills and ceiling beams to provide a nailing surface for floor boards.
