Dovetail Log Assembly
Dovetailed logs require great craftsmanship in order to create solid notches preventing air and moisture penetration. The walls are load-bearing and are assembled with the largest logs on the bottom and smallest logs at the top supporting the ridge pole.
Typical Dovetail Log Construction is most commonly found in the Canadian Prairies (Manitoba and Saskatchewan). Its influence is from the Scandinavian culture. In this typical model, the structure sits on large fieldstones at all four corners and includes a rammed earth fireplace.
