Anglican Christ Church 1915
Built in 1915, this church served as a replacement for the church of the same name constructed in 1845. See Anglican Christ Church (1845). The congregation was growing, and faced with the prospect of major repairs, they instead chose to construct a new church in 1907. The church is located in Ashton, Ontario, approximately 40km south west of Ottawa. It is adjacent to the original, separated by the rectory, along what is now called Flewellyn Road. The cornerstone for the church was laid in 1915.
The church was built at a cost of $5000 and completed within the year. It was consecrated by Bishop John Charles Roper in 1920. It features a spacious nave with ornate, exposed timber scissor trusses. Set between these trusses and within the pitched roof are small eyebrow dormer windows. The other windows of the church are leaded stained glass, the pattern of the wood mullions on the north facing windows are reminiscent of the original 1845 church. The walls are structural irregular coursed rubble, the buttresses are accentuated along the exterior of the nave walls. The generous chancel is separated by two steps, and features a semi-circular apse. There is a single gothic-revival tower placed adjacent to the chancel, on the north-east side of the church, directly adjacent to the rectory. The main floor of the tower serves as the vestry. The church continues to serve its congregation today.
